'Getting there' is just the first part. maintaining your ideal weight is where the real fun begins!
Whether you're just starting on your weight loss journey or you've been exactly where you want to be for years, here are the seven best 'extras' to get or keep your body purring like a fine tuned machine!
Eat Less calories than you burn
The easiest way to lose weight is to eat fewer calories than you expend. If you want to lose weight, then you need to consume fewer calories than you burn. To do this, you should first know how many calories you burn each day. You can find out by using a calorie counter, or simply by tracking what you eat and drink. Once you have determined how many calories you burn per day, you can calculate how much food you need to eat to stay at your current weight.
Drink Plenty of water
Drinking enough water helps keep your body functioning properly. Water keeps your skin looking young and healthy, reduces bloating, and prevents constipation. A good rule of thumb is to drink half your bodyweight in ounces of water each day. So if you weigh 150 pounds, you should aim to drink 75 ounces (about 2 gallons) of water each day.
Exercise Regularly
Exercise burns calories and helps you feel great. Try to exercise three times per week for 30 minutes at a time. Start slow and work your way up to longer workouts. Walking, running, swimming, biking, dancing, and playing sports are all examples of activities that count toward meeting your daily activity goal.
Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is important for maintaining a healthy weight. Sleep deprivation makes people crave high-calorie foods. Getting adequate sleep also boosts your immune system and aids in recovery after physical activity. Aim for seven to nine hours of sleep each night.
Avoid Processed Foods
Processed foods are often high in sugar and fat. These foods make you hungry faster than whole foods, so they may lead to overeating. Instead, choose fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish, nuts, seeds, and legumes.
Don't Skip Meals
If you're trying to lose weight, don't skip meals. Skipping meals causes your blood sugar levels to drop, making you hungrier later. When you eat smaller meals throughout the day, you'll feel fuller between meals and won't be tempted to snack.
Keep Track of Your Diet
Keeping a record of everything you eat is helpful when losing weight. Write down everything you eat and drink, including snacks, beverages, and alcohol. Make sure to note the amount of calories and grams of fat in each meal and snack. Also write down any changes you make to your eating habits.
TDEE
What exactly is Total Daily Energy Expenditure and should I really care about mine? I can't decide that, but if you want to do this right, this is one of the next steps!
